This is a hastily thrown together liveblog covering the Concert for America. I want to support the mission of this event because it’s got a star-studded cast and supports many worthy causes.

With hope, we cannot lose.

I’ll dip in when someone cool pops up.

3:28 p.m.: Like any good Broadway diva show we get started late. But the festivities begin with Seth Rudesky.

3:41 p.m.: Jumped over to Facebook and caught news that the Trump White House has deleted the LGBT and Climate Change pages. that was fast.

Betty Buckley singing a cover of “Don’t Give Up” was a masterful song choice—for the message and for the fact that she chose it from one of the best records in the history of music. “So” was released in 1987 and included “Don’t Give Up,” a duet by Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush.

4:38 p.m.: the unbelievable Stephanie Mills singing “Never Knew Love Like This Before” makes my heart happy. Dorothy from The Wiz just killed it, but the audience needs to get their asses off the chair for a standing O!

4:50 p.m.: the moment of the concert was the acapella rendition of “America the Beautiful.” amazing.

5:00 p.m.: I don’t know who arranged Carrie Manolakos’ rendition of “Hallelujah” but it’s one of the best I’ve ever heard.

5:11 p.m. Sharon Gless (Cagney & Lacey) comes out and gets emotional talking about the energy of the Broadway community.

5:17 p.m. Julia Murney takes the stage with three other gals as a quartet to sing “I’m a Woman” and it’s so epic I don’t know what to do with myself.
