Dear Madame Speaker:

I met you at Human Rights Campaign’s 2008 Annual Gala in D.C. as guest of co-chair Ted Toon; it was a proud moment in my life as Barack Obama was about to be elected 44th president. I worked in Atlanta as a fundraiser and advocate that year, canvasing and engaging voters through in-person mobilization. I was under the assumption we as a country had turned a corner.

I was wrong.

I’m writing to you today with an urgent plea: Donald Trump is an enemy of the state. I don’t write that statement lightly; at every turn he and his MAGA GOP sycophants have seized media cycles to distract and obfuscate and double-down on blatant lies.

They are breaking laws, norms and rules out in the open.

Most recently there is a significant IC whistle-blower complaint that is being actively suppressed by DOJ and DNI. We cannot allow this to stand and you are the best messenger to deliver the message to the American people that illegal behavior is unacceptable. Will you please consider addressing the nation in a televised press conference?

Donald Trump is an enemy* of the state—CrankyYank Vol. 88

Your position on impeachment hearings is a paradox: let 2020 election be ultimate arbiter of Trump’s federal felonies. Is that characterization of your position fair? I will work every part of my body to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in 2020—and though your opinion may eventually turn out to be accurate—I don’t believe this country can wait 14 months to adjudicate Trump’s crimes.

History can and should be written right now and we must step up to the moment

Sure, Donald Trump is a political goldmine for Democrats; 2018’s Blue Wave is a testament to that. but this decision (whether or not to officially open impeachment proceedings) is a historic time in your second tenure. History is watching; history can and should be written right now and we must step up to the moment.

27 more ways Donald Trump is a #NatSec nightmare

In my view you must SEIZE the constitutional mantle by directly, succinctly, honestly explaining to the American people why criminal behavior by a POTUS* of any party must NOT be tolerated. Dems are basically the last line of constitutional defense in America and I believe down to my bone marrow that you must make that case, immediately.

Will you consider doing an interview for my blog? I would love to chat with you about that and many other issues.

Respectfully yours,

Will Pollock
