“Well that’s an interesting question,” he replied in that signature, commanding baritone.

When I was growing up in New York I used to secretly turn on my black-and-white TV after bedtime and sneak reruns of Star Trek, the original series. So as a lifelong Trekkie having the opportunity to interview Leonard “Mr. Spock” Nimoy for Professional Photographer magazine was a bucket-list item I never knew I needed.

Multi-modality artists are… fascinating

Creatives with huge success in one artistic avenue very often excel in others. The same is true for Nimoy. He was a successful and boundary-pushing photographer who knew well the Comfort Zone axiom: creative risk spurs growth within, in artists and viewers.

Last night I started probably my 300th playback of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, which is an enduring and thought-provoking love letter to peace. Scenes were written and directed with such care and thoughtfulness it almost felt like writers did a Mind Meld with Voltaire.

“Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end,” Mr. Spock admonished fellow Vulcan Valeris, who would eventually conspire to sabotage an organized-peace process. “History is replete with turning points; you must have faith… that the universe is unfolding as it should.”

Before Louis DeJoy was installed to destroy USPS he committed election fraud in North Carolina

Calm in the face of sabotage is what we need right now, today, with American democracy hanging in the balance this November. We need boundary-pushing and fearless creatives expanding their crafts, plural, and inspiring others to think differently.

When I asked Nimoy what he thought Mr. Spock would say about his photography, he replied with signature humility. “I think he would find it unique. That’s the best I could hope for.” 🌟

As for-profit media continues to fail us, it’s more important than ever to find reliable sources. Authentic storytelling exists—you just have to look for it. On this blog you’ll get ideas, not ideology. Sass with class. Reporting with rapport. Evidence with a touch of evil. You get the idea.
